Each detector contains its own set of electronics for powering its photomultiplier tube and processing the detected gamma signals. Two “windows” are machined along the length of a Tungsten shield positioned 180° apart from one another. The eccentric tungsten shielding has a thickness that provides a high front to back gamma count ratio. It is designed to maximize gamma rays entering the crystal through the window while effectively blocking them from penetrating the non-window area of the crystal. This unique shielding design and dual detectors effectively doubles the tool sensitivity while maintaining directionality. The DDG supplies an output signal from each detector for processing in a customer supplied controller. Power and GND are input to either MDM connector. Output counts from each detector can be individually processed or summed together. In addition, either tool can be turned off if a problem is detected by the controller. Tools are placed within the KUTh verifier (model# 188074) supplied by AEA Technology that simulates the gamma test formation located at the University of Houston. Unlike other devices that are commonly used to calibrate gamma tools, the KUTh verifier contains the same relative amounts of Potassium (K), Uranium (U) and Thorium (Th) as is found in the API test pits. Counts are collected and used to calculate the API correction in units of CPS per API. This value is then used when applying corrections for collar wall thickness, mud thickness and Potassium. Each gamma ray logging tool is supplied with a Certificate of Calibration. It is recommended that tools be recalibrated annually. Serving the downhole Oil & Gas Industry for 30 years! CBG is a Texas Corporation established in 1992. Located in Austin, Texas the company was founded by a group of engineering professionals whose collaboration began in the early 1980’s as part of Gearhart Industries Austin Research Center, later acquired by Halliburton. After relocating the R&D group to Houston, the original founders of CBG decided to stay in Austin and began offering their services to the industry as an outsource engineering group. Originally contracted to design Production Logging tools for Halliburton, CBG went on to develop a number of wireline and directional drilling tools for several of the major service companies. Along the way the company designed a complete suite of wireline Production Logging tools and began manufacturing and selling these. In 1993 CBG was approached by Tensor to design and supply an MWD gamma tool to become a part of their growing MWD system market. This gamma tool, the NGT-T (Natural Gamma Tool-Tensor) became the industry standard and after numerous enhancements and improvements over the years remains the most popular MWD oil Gamma tool on the market. Over the years, CBG has continued to grow, expanding its list of products and customers around the world.
